Aperture

Aperture is F number which is the size of the lens:
f/22, f/16, f/11, f/8.0, f/5.6, f/4.0, f/2.8, f/2.0, f/1.8 etc.
Every f/number represents one time the amount of light either more or less in quantity.
Aperture and Shutter Priority modes are semi-manual (or semi-automatic) modes which gives you some control over the camera and the images achieved.
Aperture Priority lets you set the f/number for the required Depth of Field which ensures you have a well exposed image.
Depth of Field (DOF)
It is the distance between the nearest and farthest objects in a scene that appear acceptably sharp in an image.
